Why have a school treaty?

After PE our class spent time deciding why we needed a school treaty and what would happen if we didn't.

Where do you think the class treaty might fit on our Gradual Release of Responsibility Wall?

    1. Hi Lachlan
Thanks for your comment. What makes me you think that the treaty is down towards the guided/independent end of our wall. Do you think there might be times when the treaty needs to be modeled and shared with students?

  2. If you had the treaty at the beginning of your wall it would be like a touchstone that you keep coming back to. I'm wondering what ideas people have for getting the treaty to be lived. It's all very well having it - what would compel people to follow it. We know that coercion doesn't change behaviour long term. How could the treaty referred to and really be part of what happens in your place?

  3. I'm wondering how the purpose of school might help guide the principles of your treaty. Perhaps exploring and agreeing on this purpose as individuals and collectively. This could inform the devlopment of treaty principles that reflect the class as a community.
e.g. If the purpose of school is learning how does the treaty support the class as a community of learners?
I like Cheryl's reference to the treaty as a touchstone.

It's very exciting to be able to leave a comment on a blog but remember we are supposed to be commenting about the post. Where do you think the treaty fits on our class wall of responsibility up at modeled or down at independent?

Thanks for your comment! Why do you think that the treaty should go under guided independent. Do you think that there might times you can think when teachers and other students might model the treaty?

    1. Hi Sarah
Great to see your comment here. I like that you have given a reason for where you think the treaty fits. Who should do the reminding and how can other students learn how to act?

    1. Hi Elizabeth
How awesome to have your first blog comment. Congratulations! I like that you have answered the question and have a reason. Is it always good to be independent or are there times you need to have others guide and model behaviour for you?
